Fair Trade Fruit
Our sultanas and raisins come from the Orange River region of South Africa. The area is isolated and dry, as it is near the Kalahari Desert. Many crops are unprofitable, but farmers can get a decent income from growing grapes and drying them. The problem for small farmers is that it takes three years before the first crop and they need training and financial help to get started.

SAD Vine Fruit (PTY) Ltd is helping these farmers to overcome their problems and market their products. Traidcraft's sales of raisins and sultanas mean one group of farmers has the chance of a better future.

Fair Trade Nuts
Agrocel in western India, supplies our cashews. One of the farmers who benefits is Mr Prakesh Dalvi. One of the main problems in this region of India is lack of water, but Mr Dalvi has been able to install a pump and has a well.

He says: "Working with Agrocel is very fruitful and very helpful because of the good price and the fact that I will be paid on time. Also, I know I will get the price for the full weight of my cashews; sometimes this does not happen when I sell to other traders. In the harvest season I employ six to seven people. I would like you to keep buying my cashews."
